Every Monday we celebrate the runners who have joined Team Special Children’s Charities for the Bank of America Chicago Marathon.
This incredible team is using their miles to support people with intellectual and developmental disabilities in Chicago. We are so grateful for their dedication and generosity!
This week’s featured runner is Cintia Souza, who is running with Team Special Children’s Charities for the first time. Cintia told us about how sports made a difference in her life, and how she wants to give that gift to others.
“It’s been a pleasure raising funds in support of Special Children’s Charities. As a mom, runner, and committed volunteer in my community, I was searching for a meaningful way to run the Chicago Marathon through a charity. When I discovered the incredible work that Special Children’s Charity does—supporting children and adults with special needs—I knew right away this was the cause I wanted to represent in my first Major Marathon.
I’m originally from Brazil and grew up in an underserved community where sports changed the course of my life. Based on my own experience, I truly believe in the power of sports to transform lives for the better in every way.
My goal in this project goes beyond just fundraising. I want to help build a better future for our society. I believe that becoming 1% better every day can make a meaningful impact. I also hope to be an example for my son—to show him that we can make a difference by taking small, thoughtful actions to support others.
Thank you for allowing me to be part of this amazing team”
Thank you so much to Cintia for sharing her story and for being a part of our team! Support Cintia’s effort by making a donation to her campaign today!
