Every Monday, we celebrate the runners who have joined Team Special Children’s Charities for the Bank of America Chicago Marathon.
This incredible team is using their miles to support people with intellectual and developmental disabilities in Chicago. We are so grateful for their dedication and generosity!
This week’s featured runner is Andrew DaCosta. Andrew told us about attempting his first marathon this year with Team SCC.
“I’ve always wanted to run a full marathon, and when I started looking for a team to run with, Special Children’s Charities stood out immediately. The mission — supporting people with intellectual and developmental disabilities — is one I believe in, and I wanted my first marathon to mean something beyond the finish line.
Last year I ran the Chicago Half Marathon. This year I’m going back for the full 26.2, and I’m doing it with Team SCC. Training for a marathon is hard. Knowing I’m running for something bigger than myself makes it worth it.
I’m grateful for the SCC community and excited to represent this team on race day in October.”
Thank you so much to Andrew for being a part of our team! Support his effort by making a donation to his campaign today!

My dad and I could not think of a more perfect charity to raise money for. A charity bringing health and wellness and inclusivity to children and young adults like my brother, something we strive to not take for granted every day.

So when I run Chicago, I’m not just running for myself. I’m running to support a mission that creates inclusion, builds confidence, and empowers people to live full, meaningful lives.

Marathon Monday: Neil Morrison
I am excited to be able to raise money for a cause that is close to my heart and to have more of an impact helping both children and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities be able to participate in athletic, enrichment, and educational programs so they can live their best lives too.
