Every Monday we celebrate the runners who have joined Team Special Children’s Charities for the Bank of America Chicago Marathon.
This incredible team is using their miles to support people with intellectual and developmental disabilities in Chicago. We are so grateful for their dedication and generosity!
This week we’re featuring Tricia Resetar. Tricia told us about running this year’s Chicago Marathon in honor of her daughter:
“As a parent to a beautiful daughter with cerebral palsy who is nonverbal, non ambulatory and faces many other significant developmental delays, I live every day in the world of special needs. I know firsthand the challenges, heartbreaks, small victories, and strength it takes to navigate this journey — not just for the children, but for their families as well.
Running has become more than just a personal goal for me; it’s a way to honor my daughter’s courage and the courage of countless other children like her. Every mile I run is powered by a deeper purpose — to raise awareness, funding, and support for the special needs community. I was proud to run the NYC Marathon in support of Children’s Specialized Hospital of New Jersey, an experience that deeply moved me and reaffirmed my desire to do more.
Now, I an honored to continue that mission by running on behalf of Special Children’s Charities of Chicago. Their dedication to improving the lives of children with physical and intellectual disabilities or delays aligns perfectly with my own passion and purpose. Every step I take will be a tribute to my daughter and a commitment to families who, like mine, face the daily realities of raising and including a child with special needs in our daily lives and family activities.
Supporting Special Children’s Charities means helping to provide vital programs, therapies, and opportunities that truly change lives. It means being part of a community that sees the potential in every child, no matter their challenges. This is more than a run for me — it’s a personal journey of hope, advocacy, and love.
Through every step and each marathon I am able, we can create brighter futures, open more doors, and build a stronger, more inclusive world for all families.”
Thank you so much to Tricia for being a part of our team! Support her effort by making a donation to her campaign today!

Marathon Monday: Jonathan Herrera
Through out my life, I have always been a part of activities and events that are sponsoring children/young adults with special needs. I’ve noticed that throughout the years that the help, guidance, supplies, have only gone up in price for these families of children with special needs, and having these opportunities to raise money for these children and adults is one of the kindest things you can do.

Marathon Monday: Katherine Nappi
As a mom of two, this journey is also about showing my kids the power of inclusion, empowerment, and giving back.

Marathon Monday: Susan Hurren
I want to raise money and assist these people in getting to spend time doing what they love to do just like the rest of us.

Marathon Monday: Sam Mermelstein
his organization lives out Mason’s mission every day—uplifting, supporting, and empowering children with special needs. By taking on these 26.2 miles, I feel I am able to give back a small portion of the love Mason gave so freely to the world.

Marathon Monday: Katie Poole
Running has given me more than just miles – it’s given me a powerful community, a way to process grief, and the power of showing up for something bigger than myself.

Marathon Monday: Laila Robateau
When children and adults with disabilities are given the chance to learn, play, and connect, it transforms not only their lives but also the lives of their families and communities.
