Every Monday we celebrate the runners who have joined Team Special Children’s Charities for the Bank of America Chicago Marathon.
This incredible team is using their miles to support people with intellectual and developmental disabilities in Chicago. We are so grateful for their dedication and generosity!

This week we have a two-for-one! We’re featuring the running duo of Megan Sullivan and her dad Kevin—aka Run Sully Run. Megan told us all about why she and her dad are running together this year:

This October, I’ll have the incredible opportunity to run the Chicago Marathon alongside my dad, all while raising money and awareness for Special Children’s Charities. I often say that every girl deserves a dad like Kevin. We share a special bond, one that’s strengthened through our shared kind, but competitive spirit and love of spicy food. There are so many qualities in my dad that I strive to emulate.

The kindness he shows to everyone, whether friend or stranger, is something I admire. His work ethic is unmatched—he’s always leading by example. His approach to life, facing challenges without letting stress or worry take over, is a constant source of inspiration. His dedication, humor, selflessness, and willpower are just a few more of the countless qualities I try to bring into my own life. And now, I get to add his love of running to that list as well.

Running this marathon together, with him by my side, is not just about the race—it’s about taking everything he’s taught me in life and the bond we share to accomplish this achievement together. I credit so much of who I am to my dad (really both my parents). Hopefully, come October, I can say I’m a marathon runner, thanks to my dad.

When it came time to decide which organization we wanted to raise money for Team Special Children’s Charities was the obvious choice. Sports have always been a meaningful part of our lives, and we believe everyone deserves the opportunity to experience the joy, confidence, and community that athletics can bring. As a pediatric nurse, I see firsthand how important inclusivity is for children of all abilities, and it made this cause especially close to my heart. Running together allows us to support a mission we deeply believe in—helping children and adults with special needs thrive through sports, recreation, and shared experiences that celebrate their unique strengths.

The mission of Special Children’s Charities deeply resonates with our running journey, as it takes focus on empowerment and overcoming obstacles—values that are at the heart of both the marathon and the organization’s work. Training for a marathon requires perseverance, resilience, and belief in your own potential—qualities that people with special needs demonstrate every day as they navigate challenges and break through barriers. By running together, my dad and I hope to reflect that same spirit and show that with the right support and opportunities, everyone can achieve incredible things. Supporting this cause is our way of helping to create a more inclusive world where everyone is empowered to thrive.

We love it when running partners join #TeamSCC, and we love it even more when they’re family. We are so excited to be a part of this experience for the Sullivans, and we are grateful for their generosity. Support them by making a donation today.

Giving Tuesday is today!

Special Children’s Charities provides free, year-round programs for children and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities across all 77 Chicago neighborhoods. Nearly 70% of participants live below the poverty line, so removing financial barriers is essential to ensuring access, inclusion, and joy.

Give to Special Children’s Charities this Giving Tuesday and help us meet our fundraising goal of $10,000!
