Every Monday we celebrate the runners who have joined Team Special Children’s Charities for the Bank of America Chicago Marathon.
This incredible team is using their miles to support people with intellectual and developmental disabilities in Chicago. We are so grateful for their dedication and generosity!

This week’s Marathon Monday featured runner is Carson Haslinger. Carson told us about his brother Cole, and how Cole inspired him to tackle the Chicago Marathon this year and to support SCC:

“I’m running the Chicago Marathon because I’ve fallen in love with the sense of accomplishment that running gives me. It started in August 2023, when two coworkers bullied me (in the friendliest way) into running on my lunch break instead of hitting the office gym. Those first few runs were brutal, but before long, I noticed real progress. With the right shoes and better nutrition, I tackled my first half marathon in April 2024—and immediately set my sights on the full 26.2.

Why Chicago? My older brother, Cole, was born here. Cole has Down Syndrome and has been my biggest supporter since the day I was born. Chicago has always been special to my family, and learning about Special Children’s Charities felt like fate. The programs, transportation, and community connections this organization provides are exactly the kind of resources that would have kept Cole more involved and engaged growing up—something our family would have cherished.

Every donation means the world to me because I know it’s going to help people like Cole stay active, connected, and part of something bigger. This race isn’t just about running for me—it’s about running for him, and for everyone who deserves those same opportunities.”

Thank you so much to Carson for being a part of our team! Support his effort by making a donation to his campaign today!

Giving Tuesday is today!

Special Children’s Charities provides free, year-round programs for children and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities across all 77 Chicago neighborhoods. Nearly 70% of participants live below the poverty line, so removing financial barriers is essential to ensuring access, inclusion, and joy.

Give to Special Children’s Charities this Giving Tuesday and help us meet our fundraising goal of $10,000!
